Purito Centella Sunscreen
In this hypersonic world of the beauty industry, there can be much that does not meet your eyes, both good and bad. Sunscreen is one of the most commonly utilized and simplest beauty products that is used by millions of people worldwide and is not really as niche as other facial/body products such as toners, facewash, skincare lines etc. However, there is no single type of sunscreen, there are various strengths which are measured in SPF’s (Sun Protection Factor). The higher the SPF count goes, the more protection your skin has against harmful UVB rays emitted from the sun. However, there are various sunscreens to choose from as each may be suitable for a specific skin type, such as dry, oily, scaly, combination and sensitive. Purito is a well-known and trusted brand which guarantees product quality and has a high standard for all its SKUs in the beauty industry, and it goes without saying that they are a solid choice for all sorts of products, but recently there was an incident which made some people question their products, and we are here to clear things up a bit for people who aren’t in the know completely about the whole scenario. People have even gone far enough to call this entire event a scandal on a larger scale, well, we are here to shed light on this issue.
Here is an image to help you understand the intensity of sun rays and their different constituents better:

The Incident
Purito’s Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF50+ began to be targeted after its SPF rating was disputed publicly. A founder of InciDecoder, was skeptical about the products capabilities of performing adequately under high intensity UVB rays, after reviewing its ingredients and their respective concentrations, and after opening up about this finding online, they sent this sunscreen into assorted laboratories in Europe for in-vitro and vitro testing. The results were as they had claimed, the SPF rating which was supposed to be able to handle SPF50 power sun rays was actually only capable of protecting your skin from an SPF level of 19. In the wake of this shocking news, people all over the world started boycotting Purito’s products, and they were also being questioned about the quality of other products as well.
Now while these claims are true about its power not being adequate to withstand SPF50 rays, we have to look at things in a larger perspective as well. Is Purito the only company who has been doing so? The answer is definitely no. There are several massive label corporations that do so in order to cut down manufacturing costs to boost their margins, from a corporate view, it may be fraud, but at least its a surefire way to increase revenue! But here’s the thing, you must be asking yourself, which brands can you actually trust completely? We have a different outlook. What intensity of SPF do you actually need protection against? Studies have shown that 92% of sunscreen buyers do not need them for protection against such severe sun rays. Dermatologists have recommended using a sunscreen of at least 30, which can block out 97% of the sun’s radiation. Higher SPF values may help you cover up that margin of 3% but you can never really block 100% of the sun’s harmful rays. So, if every big company has some loopholes in their SPF levels, that value shouldn’t be the basis of your purchase! If several different sunscreens have similar SPF levels you are better off choosing the one which suits your skin type best, the one which smells the best according to you, and the one which feels the nicest on your skin while giving priority to the SPF rating second. So, make your pick based on what YOU loved, and as long as you select an “SPF50”, even if its not actually 50, you should be just fine.

Our Review
For what this product lacks in SPF, it makes up for in comfort. It leaves absolutely no residue and just glides over your skin without feeling greasy in the slightest. The lotion completely sinks into your skin and not only blocks UV rays, but also moisturizes your skin due to the presence of Hyaluronic Acid and Glycerin. The finish easily disappears under an overlay of makeup as well. A massive plus factor for this sunscreen is its scent. Normally sunscreens which advocate no scents end up having that artificial, industrial chemical smell which can’t be avoided, but with Purito Sunscreen, you get nothing but a slight burst of freshness. Purito Centella Sunscreen also has Centella extracts which are a well-known K-beauty super-ingredient. It is known to reduce wrinkles, heal scars, and remove pigmentation. Vitamin E adds further antioxidant and moisturizing properties to this gem of a product. The texture of this sunscreen is incredibly light and fluffy, whereas other market products feel like oil and grease on your skin. Furthermore, it has an even lower white cast due to the presence of titanium dioxide along with zinc oxide.
Conclusion
While Purito’s original sunscreen got caught up in this scandal, they have already covered up their mistake and launched a new Purito’s Sunscreen which has been independently tested in multiple locations to ensure they provide the specified SPF level. However, this new product does not have the same look and feel as their old one. So, they may have solved one issue regarding their SPF levels but they seem to have created a new one regarding their consistency and texture. So, in the end the final decision lays in your hands, would you compromise the SPF levels of your sunscreen in exchange for the golden look and feel of the old Purito’s centella sunscreen, or remain slightly uncomfortable in exchange for slightly more sun resistance? I support you no matter what product you choose and hope I could help you in any way regarding your thought process and product selection.
